Baan Sri Wiang, a 116-year-old colonial house, is located on Pramuan Road, Silom, an area with stories from the past of both the people who used to live in this area and the people of Bangkok today. This area used to be inhabited by people of many races and is an area where 4 religions, Buddhism, Christianity, Islam and Hinduism, are combined. Today, Pramuan Road and the Silom area are still one of the areas full of warmth and liveliness. There are both residences, businesses, shops, schools, churches and a shady area that is nice to walk along the entire road. Originally, the land on Pramuan Road belonged to Phra Pramuan Pramatphon (Chan Bunbanlue) but was sold to Phraya Surasak because Phraya Surasak had to return Sala Daeng House to King Chulalongkorn (Rama V). Phraya Surasak therefore had to buy a house and land of approximately 100 rai from Phra Pramuan Pramatphon on Silom Road near Bangrak Hospital of the Department of Medical Services, which is now Lerdsin Hospital, to use as a new residence. Since this plot of land was larger than needed, Chao Phraya Surasak divided the land up for sale. And asked for permission to build 3 more roads, 2 of which connect Silom Road and Sathon Road, and asked for permission to name one of the roads as Pramuan Road to commemorate the original owner, Phra Pramuan Pramaphon. Pramuan Road is also the location of Pramuan Palace, which is the residence of His Royal Highness Prince Pithayalongkorn, the son of Somdet Phra Bowonratcha Chao Krom Phra Ratchawang Bowon Wichaichan, the founder of the Ratchanee family, who received approximately 12 rai of royal land, so he demolished the original palace on the bank of Khlong Bang Luang near Saphan Charoen Phat. This palace was built of beautiful wood and was converted into a printing house named Pramuan Mark Printing House. A new palace was built, a 2-storey building designed by Mom Chao Wotyakorn Vorawan. Ban Sriwiang on Pramuan Road therefore has a warm atmosphere from the past. The way of life of the palace people in the Rattanakosin period is beautiful in the hearts of those who visit Ban Sriwiang.
