This is a house that allowed us to indulge in the atmosphere of Bangkok during the period of Rattanakosin era 130 (year 1912). The history can be absorbed by “stepping into the history” at ‘Baan Sriwiang’ or ‘Baan Tuek Din’ (The house behind the clay building). Sriwiang Road and Pramuan Road were directly connected to the most affluent district in those days, Charoen Krung Road which was the very first road in Bangkok that has been built and designed with influence from the Western. This particular old neighborhood area was also considered as very prosperous.

During the reign of King Rama V, there were many foreigners living in the districts of Silom and Sathorn area. The architecture such as townhouses were greatly influenced by the western style.

Subsequently, the western culture became the identity of the houses in those days. The house became a place where Luang Uparakarn Niramit (Dang), an official in the reign of King Rama V and VI lived. ‘Baan Tuek Din’, a white wooden house that combined the exterior architecture of Thai and Western elements throughout the interior elements. Such design was considered to be a perfect example of Colonial Influence architecture during the period of Rattanakosin era 130.

Baan Sriwiang has a unique white wooden house, decorated with such elaborate perforated wood on the gable and the eaves of the roof. The maintenance has been meticulously carried out, allowing all the decoration details to withstand the time and still in great condition. All furniture and decorative pieces were part of the owner’s collection and were kept within its original from Europe, mostly are more than 100 years old. Whoever walks in is sure to catch a glimpse of the main centerpiece of the house, a beautiful piano originated from France. The piano is an upright style made from mahogany wood by Planchat during the 18th century. The special design is the keyboard compass with 7 octave or 84 keys covered with ivory, nowadays such keys are no longer in production.

Baan Siwiang is also surrounded with trees with greenery atmosphere making the house feel cool with comfort even in the midst of tall buildings in busy area of Bangkok. One can experience the touch of lifestyle from the olden colonial era days. The space and surrounding gives the perfect composition of light, shadow and shades with such airy atmosphere following the paradigm of the Thai colonial style.
